You find yourself standing in the main atrium of the Entry Processing wing of the Sheratan command center. It is tranquil here, and the jet-black marble veneer of the walls and floor glistens elegantly as rays of light reflect off of the ivory columns flanking the entrance hall.

Mounted on a podium in the center of the reception hall, an electronic display provides directions to the various wings of the facility. Approaching the board, you scroll through the list of offices until you find directions to the recruiting offices.

This is the place to sign up! Once you're familiar with how to post here, please post a message, in roleplaying format, letting us know that you wish to sign on with the Legionnaires.

Stepping out of the car, I gleamed through the rain at the lighted building before me. It had been a very long time since I last saw the magnificence of what was before me. I stepped forward along the path towards the Legionnaires HeadQuarters. Stepping up to the door, a simple press of a button slid the Legionnaire's insignia imprinted on the door into two, allowing access to the mercenaries home.

Entering through the door, dripping from the rain outside, I proceeded to the security desk. A secretary at the desk looked up to see the new figure having arrived.

How many I help you, sir?

I'm looking for a Benjamin Maxwell, I'm looking to join the Legionnaires. Well... join, rejoin, what's the difference.

One moment, I will see if he is available. With that, the worker picked up a small, phone-like device to her side and called to someone up stairs. Hey, I've got a Mr...

Holmes Nets.
I did change the name a little, I know. But let's pretend it's the same person, hehe

Mr. Holmes Nets here, looking to join up with us... Yes, alright.

They are going to ask Mr. Maxwell and then get back to me. For now, have a seat over there. Might do well to look a bit... dry... anyway.

I walked into the refurbished waiting area, still admiring the glossy veneer of the newly-overhauled administrative swction.

"Sergeant Hobson! Is Captain Wolf in his office? He's not answering my page.

The voice belonged to Shelia MacEvoy, the latest in a long line of overworked receptionists attempting to manage the Legionnaires' command section. I paused for a moment, glancing over my shoulder.

"Yes - he's back there - I just came from his office. Why don't you pop back there and tell him you're here, Holmes?"

Shelia just glared at me.

Alright, will do.

I nodded towards Hobson then went back. It was very quiet in the part of the Headquarters I was walking through. You could hear the gentle beat of the rain against the ground outside. Every few moments you could hear the roar of a powerful whack of thunder.

During the time I was... away from the Legionnaires, I had grown accustomed to the busy streets of cities. It had taken quite an effort to make my way to some sort of civilization after I was shot down on the field in my 'Mech. After I had arrived somewhere, it took me weeks to finally get a transport off-world, and it didn't go to any world that I needed to be. In fact, it took me all over the universe, through numerous planets. I got off and stayed in the cities for quite some time before I got a new transport to another damnable city. Though, there was one city...

My thoughts were cut short as the the elevator doors slid open. I stepped inside and pressed the cooresponding button to reach Captain Wolf's appropriate floor. The elevator hummed to life and carried me up through the base. The doors opened once again, and I studdered into the room, the magnificence of the room sucking my attention from any other task at hand. A secretary's voice brought me from the dazed state I was in, and returned me to the task at hand.

Hello there, you are looking for... Captain Wolf?

Yes, please.

His office is just down this hall. Don't cause any trouble.

Thank you.

I took a few steps down the hall, reaching the door to the office. I hesitated before opening the door, thinking about the past. If I did do this, I would be taking another risk, another shot at death. I had cheated death before, it would be unlikely that death was willing to lose again. But, the Legionnaries were my friends. They would always be there to protect me against those bad things, just as I would have to be there to protect them against it.

I opened the door.

Sitting in my office I absent mindedly drummed my fingers on the desk, this Luke Winston fellow was wearing my patience thin. He was a fairly new member of the Legionnaires, although far from a basic recruit in his actual abilities. The rather short man sported a rather enlarged belly, despite the rest of his body appearing like he worked out regularly, most likely a heavy drinker. His appearance resembled a mechanic more than an actual Aerospace pilot, a trait I found rather odd considering his somewhat extensive military career, even if it was just as a FreeLancer. It wasn't his demeanor or his appearance that was testing me, it was the fact that here he was asking for a raise. The man hadn't even been with us for a year and had already made Corporal, although fairly easy to do since we reworked our rank system after the WoB attack a little over a year ago, yet apparently he didnt feel that it was fair that he was paid so little in comparison to the MechWarriors and other members of the Legionnaires.

"As I've been trying to explain to you Captain, I deserve a raise, I feel that I've more than proven myself in the Battlefield and if I recall correctly I even saved you from rather desperate circumstances in the last OP. I think the Legionnaires lack of air assests was shown better than ever in that OP in the Capellan Federation when ...."

"The question is not whether you have proven yourself or not Corporal, and the situation in the Capellan Federation was due to bad intel more than a lack of combat air assests. You've already been given the rank of Corporal, and the pay increase that accompanies the promotion, I do not see the need to provide you with an additional increase in C-bills."

Winston looked quite upset and almost ready to lunge across the desk at me. Part of me was actually just waiting for him to do it, just so I could slam the cocky little shit against the floor or wall in an arm bar until he decided to see things my way. But the administrative part of me kept the rest in check as it appeared the Corporal was doing the same. Hardening his face even more he rose from his chair, crossing his arms across his chest before finally speaking.

Well Captain Wolf, if you are not willing to provide me with the reasonable pay increase that I have asked for then I will simply leave the Legionnaires, I have many opportunities as a Free Lancer still available to me so it makes no difference to me."

Standing myself, I placed both hands on the edge of the desk and leaned forward slightly, in a deep low steady voice I simply replied, "Your not going to get your raise Mr. Winston, and threatening to leave the Legionnaires is no threat, I know that Free Lancer work is virtually non-existant in the Inner Sphere since the 'Jihad' and you need to be a part of us, more than we need you. If you wish to leave, so be it, but that is your own decision. If you wish to reconsider you are still welcome here, I advise you make up your mind before that changes."

The Corporal opened his mouth to say something in retaliation but then closed it again, it seemed that he did at least have some common sense. Normally a raise wouldn't be such a hassle, but every since the WoB attack on Sheratan c-bills have been rather tight for the Legionnaires, despite still manageing a healthy number of contracts. The rebuilding of the Site 187 facility, now codenamed 'Camelot', cost us a pretty penny, even with the assistance of the Crayven Corporation, and all the new upgrades and repairs to the Liberty and our various Battlemechs has cut our profits down considerably. After a few moments of silence the Corporal spoke rather softly, his arms unfolding and relaxing at his sides.

"Very well Captain, you seem to be able to hold your side of an arguement quite well. I will accept my current rate of pay, if you need me for anything further I'll be in the Cantina..."

The Corporal trailed off at the end sounded a little defeated, turning he headed towards the door and then paused for a moment, turning around he snapped a quick salute and turned back around reaching for the door handle. Before he was able to grab the handle the door opened seemingly of its own accord, the Corporal moving backwards to avoid the inwards opening door. A quick nod from Luke Winston to the man standing in the doorway was given before he headed out the door and down the hall.

Standing in the doorway was Mr. Holmes Nets, a man I hadn't seen in well over a year now, and honestly one I never thought I would see again, although I was glad to see him. At first glance the man was hardly recognizable, time had definately changed him, although none for the worse as far as I could tell, just a slightly different appearance and demeanor. I probably wouldn't have recognized him at all for some time if the secretary hadn't buzzed down to notify me he was on the way. He looked a bit surprised at first, probably not expecting to run into Luke as he opened the door.

As he stepped through the door I moved in front of the desk to greet him.
"Holmes, its good to see you. What brings you back to the Legionnaires my friend?"

"I'm considering re-enlisting" Was all he said, obviously he was still a little unsure of his choice and a little nervous as well.

Motioning for him to take a seat as I sat myself down behind the desk, I quickly pulled a datapad from the desk drawer and brought up a few forms on it before setting it down in the middle of the desk facing towards Holmes.

"Really? That's great to hear. If your sure of your decision we can fill out these forms now, or if you have some questions or would like some more time to think about it its not a problem, just let me know what you decide to do."

"Really? That's great to hear. If your sure of your decision we can fill out these forms now, or if you have some questions or would like some more time to think about it its not a problem, just let me know what you decide to do."

I was nearly startled by how well the Captain was able to read my features. Although it had been only a single year that passed, I had not made much lasting contact with people during my... explorations. The few people I did become acquaintanced with were nothing like my comrades from the Legionnaries. They were quite simple people, although all of them showed a dedicated compassion and kindness. Most had helped me live in their cities and raise money to get transport off wherever I was. But none could quite compete in any aspect with the Legionnaires.

The Captain was one of the best of the Legionnaires. It wasn't often I got to work directly under him in my two Ops I worked in, but I still got to know him through my work in the group. And there was no denying he was an incredibly bright man. He would always have the right thing to say and was always there to help out. It was the Mechwarriors like him in the Legionnaires that gives the group such a reputation. And it is people like him in the Legionnaires that now pushed me to make the decision to rejoin.

I nodded as if to reassure myself of my decision.

"Yes, I want to come back. I have no doubts. I do have a few questions though."

He nodded to let me know it was alright to go on with my questions.

"How many Ops have you guys been on since I got seperated from you guys? How have Captain Maxwell and Lieutenant Garland been? It seems there have been some modifications to the HQ here?"

"Well let's see, first off we've been on a fair number of OPs since you were seperated, I'm not sure exactly how many off hand, one second and I'll look it up for you."

Tapping a few commands into the computer sitting on my desk I quickly brought up the summary of our past operations, a few more taps on the keyboard narrowed it down to Operations after "Endgame".

"Well there was OP: Bloodhound and OP: Pyre Light, as well as a contract with the Federated Suns and one the Lyran Commonwealth. All in all we've had about 4 or 5 OPs since your departure."

Holmes nodded and simply said, "I see" Although his expression made it apparent that he was thinking something over in his head, probably wondering how much things had changed and stuff.

Continuing on I said,
"Unfortunately things haven't been so good for either Captain Maxwell, or Commander Garland. Garland recieved a promotion, but in the last OP his 'mech was critically wounded and he wound up losing an arm, we're still working on acquiring a replacement I believe. Captain Maxwell is no longer with the Legionnaires, after OP: Bloodhound the MRBC launched an investigation of the Legionnaires based upon information that was, in my opinion, entirely circumstancial and hardly grounds for his removal from command. He is fortunately still around with his father's company the Crayven Corporation, or whats left of it anyways. You may be able to get a hold of him personally aboard the Dreams of Averice although he has been understandably distant lately. Commander Garland should be around the Infirmary, or at least the Doctor should be able to tell you where he is if you wish to talk to him.

As far as the modifications to the site, well they were more of a necessity than a want, I'm sure you heard of the Word of Blake attacks on various planets this past year or so, well Sheratan was the unlucky target of one of their assaults. Site 187 here was nearly completely destroyed above ground, and some extensive damage was incurred in the 'mech hanger and landing bay. As a result most of the facility was rebuilt and/or modified to further accomodate the Legionnaires needs, as such you'll probably notice a few more new things once you get a chance to explore the facility further. Mostly due to generous donations from Benjamin Maxwell's father, Charles Maxwell and the Crayven Corporation."

"Wow it sounds like alot has happened since I was seperated from you guys. You wouldn't happen to have any more information regarding Captain Maxwell and Lieutenant, errr Commander Garland would you Captain?"

The slight look of worry on Holmes' face showed that he was concerned about what he had heard of his two former COs, understandably so as I believe he had been fairly close to both, the young man seemed to have a gift for getting on people's good sides.

"Actually I figured you might ask so I took the liberty of bringing up the data while we were talking," I slid two more datapads across the table which I had been tinkering with earlier, each containing data regarding Captain Maxwell and Commander Garland respectively.

Datapad 1 - MRBC Investigation involving Captain Maxwell

Datapad 2 - OP:Pyre Light - I believe the info regarding Commander Garland is on page 13

After giving Holmes Nets a moment to look at the datapads I spoke again,
"If you have no further questions, we can finish up the paperwork and have you reinstated in the Legionnaires within the hour if you'd like. Most of the data from your original enlistment still holds true I presume? You may keep those datapads to review that information in further detail if you'd like."

A few minutes later Holmes Nets and myself and finished filling out the paperwork, making a few slight changes to his previous data still stored in our records along the way. After putting the final touches on the forms I stood and Holmes followed suit. Giving a quick salute I reached out and shook his hand.

"Welcome back to the Legionnaires MechWarrior Holmes Nets"

I walk into the Major's office to hope to join the Legionneres. The sign on Maxwell's door said that he was out on buisness. There was a little bell on what I thought was his cluttered desk. I rang it and waited 5 minutes.
"Is there anybody in this place?"

I made my way into the sweeping administrative offices of the Site 187 complex, and crossed through the reception area into my private office beyond. There, standing in the doorway, was a man dressed in the uniform of the local militia, looking as though he had been waiting for some time.

"Good afternoon...Commander," I began, making note of the insignia pinned on his collar. "Is there something I can do for you?"

“Sir… I’m afraid Major Maxwell is busy with a guest… if I can take your name and telephone number, we can get straight back to you with an appointment-”

“Christ lady, I’ve already told you! SAM Grisham! Maxwell already knows me, so cut me some slack will ya?” I growled. It had taken a lot of nerve coming here. I had debated for several days the pros and cons to joining the Legionnaires. The scales were tipped to joining them by one single factor. Emily. Her treatment wasn’t going to pay itself. Although I had done okay up until now, the price of the treatment was skyrocketing with every market crash. Drug companies were caving in and filing for chapter 11 due to their greed for money. I had even heard that some companies were presenting placebos as “treatment” that would aid an eventual “cure”. The affordable system was corrupt. There were systems and companies that hadn’t been touched by corruption’s greedy hands. However, reliability suddenly had a very expensive price tag on it. That price was something a bounty hunter’s unpredictable salary couldn’t afford. So I made my choice…

“Mr Grisham, I can assure you that the Major is interested in you, however you will simply have to wait your turn…”

“Emily cant wait…” I muttered.

“Pardon sir?”

“Look, I’m tired of tap dancing for you!” I roared, rushing passed the receptionist’s desk and thrusting open Maxwell’s double oak doors.

“Yes, well your resume does seem rather impressive Commander-” Maxwell trailed off as he stared at me. He appeared to be interviewing some young promising looking mechwarrior. But I didn’t care about that. Maxwell didn’t seem shocked, but he didn’t seem too impressed either…

“Is there something I can help you with Mr Grisham?”

“As a matter of fact there is Ben…” I said, politely closing the door in the young receptionist’s face. The young man looked at me confused, looking back and forth at Maxwell for some sort of explanation. Maxwell continued to look at me with that same calm assertion I had felt in the previous mission.

“… I’ve come to enlist!”

I passed a stack of pre-interview paperwork to the applicant from the local militia, and directed him to the reception area. Nodding to the still-frazzled receptionist, I closed the office door, and motioned for Sam to have a seat. The bounty hunter slid casually into a nearby chair as I returned to mine. I slowly sat, grimacing at the mountains of paperwork which had accumulated on my desk during the previous Operation. While Major Wolf had been with the unit, our workload had been shared. Following his resignation, the sole administrative responsibility had been piled on me.

Sighing, I cleared away a smaller stack, and opened the manilla folder containing Sam Grisham's training creché. Although I had already acquired a passing familiarization with the bounty hunter's background during our unit's last Op, I wanted to better understand the man's history before our scheduled interview. However, it seemed that the interview had, evidently, been pushed up.

"It says here you attended the...Hero Training Institute," I began, making note of the gaudy unit crest emblazed in place of prominence on Grisham's certificates of achievement. Notwithstanding HTI's seedy past, the school's bargain-basement tuition rates and promises of immediate employment upon graduation continued to draw students looking for a life of combat, even though the majority of graduating cadets found themselves taking work wherever they could find it. Some took their education back to their home space to enroll in other, more reputable schools for proper military and officer training.

Sam was one of those applicants that fell into the former, rather than the latter, category.

I watched Maxwell’s bewildered gaze glance over the mass amounts of paper work that had spewed over his desk. He took another look at my paper work, then at myself, then again at the same paperwork. Eventually he put it flat on the table and gave me a long, deep stair. His interlocked fingers became a fist, to which he gently rested the lower portion of his face against.

“We’re both busy men, so I wont pussyfoot around this.” he finally said, calculating my reactions.

“Are you sure you feel you’re ready to serve with this unit?”

“Surer than ever. Surer than anything in my life.” I firmly replied, remembering Emily’s condition and the days that were slipping away. Slipping right through my fingers. Maxwell remained his steady stance.

“I’ve seen you on the battlefield. You have some essential skills that would be useful to the team. You have combat experience, although your resume states you cant pilot a mech. In fact, Mr Grisham, it seems that you cant pilot anything past a pushbike…” The words stuck in my throat like a large lump. This was perhaps my one downfall.

“Yes, that is true… however I’m willing to learn. I’m willing to go through the training.”

“In some ways, it’s a good thing that your other skills outshine this ‘sore thumb’…” Maxwell finally said, releasing his hands from their grip as he began to search the desk. Eventually he found two forms and a pamphlet.

“Read this and sign these two pieces of paper.” Ben said, passing the papers, pamphlet and a ball point pen.

“After that, you’ll report for your first assignment as a member of the Legionnaires.”

“What?!” I was flabbergasted. “That’s it? Just sign these two pieces of paper and that’s it? No exam, no further questions?”

“I’ve seen you operated. Your competent, even if your lack of discipline can sometimes be your downfall… its nothing a little extra training cant sort out.” Maxwell said, taking a deep breath before sighing. “Besides… In all honesty, I have far too much work on my plate to fuck around with red tape bullshit procedures when you and I both know you’re qualified for the job.”

I chuckled lightly to myself.

“Where do I sign?”
