Great to have you back, Lieutenant. I hope there are others who will also answer the call - once again, the Facebook site caught me totally off-guard. But it certainly isn't a bad thing. I'm honored.

Posted by: Nick Schuster Nov 7 2009, 01:13 PM

It sure as heck wasn't what I expected to find in my mailbox this morning, but I've missed you guys. Count me in! smile.gif

Posted by: Talus Nov 7 2009, 04:34 PM

Seconded. Of course, morning is a bit later here in Australia, but I recieved it none the less.
Reporting for duty?

Posted by: Kei-teh Kintaru Nov 7 2009, 05:25 PM

I was thinking...

If we do this again, how would you all feel about starting fresh? Like a complete reboot of the series?

Posted by: Kei-teh Kintaru Nov 7 2009, 05:30 PM

Sorry for the double post - feel free to add me on facebook if you have it. Do a search for -

kcooper_007@yahoo.com

You should find me - I'm the idiot holding a phone!

Posted by: Major Benjamin Maxwell Nov 7 2009, 06:40 PM

Four people - hey - that's a full lance! Certainly enough to get a fledgling company started with (if in fact the reboot comes to be - which is an intruiging concept). How do the rest of you feel about it? Reboots do seem to be the 'in' thing these days, considering MechWarrior 5 will itself be a reboot of the BattleTech series!

Posted by: Nick Schuster Nov 7 2009, 06:49 PM

A reboot? Like, completely starting over? I'm game. But I hope some of the nicer things about the RPG remain...like Sheratan...Site 187...and of course the AutoVendor wink.gif

Oh yeah and we gotta keep Op Landslide. That was my personal favorite.

Posted by: Kei-teh Kintaru Nov 7 2009, 07:42 PM

One reason I thought of a reboot is because, honestly, there is alot I have forgotten. I mean, I remember all the major missions and plot twists, but I don't know if I could just jump back into the current mission without screwing up an entire canon because of one oversight.

The other reason I want to do a reboot is because there are things I'm not happy with about my characters. For starters I desperately want to rename them slightly (and just throwing that in with the existing canon would be a little confusing). I wouldnt mind having a go at revisiting some the old missions and villains as well as re-writing my character's backgrounds.

The way I envisions the reboot was that we would literally just reset to the begining. We still have the same setting, same Legionnaire unit, but we just restart. I already have planned in my mind how I'd like to reintroduce Kei-teh Kintaru. I'd still like General Ren to feature as an antagonist, along with Saburo.

Believe it or not, the Legionnaires (and even Revolution) often creeps into my mind every now and again. I've thought over loads of stories if we ever did restart. I personally feel, in order to really stoke the creative fires, we need good antagonists. Without blowing my own horn too much, I remember when Ren played a major role in pushing the story forward and everyone seemed to really enjoy it. As such, I've thought up several ideas, but those will have to wait for now...

Anyways, those are just my thoughts and opinions. What did you guys have in mind?

Cheers, Keith

PS - Landslide was also one of my personal favs... I would love to revisit that again biggrin.gif

Posted by: Major Benjamin Maxwell Nov 7 2009, 08:35 PM

Those were good times indeed, and I did enjoy when we were following that arc. I also agree with many of the points you have made. So my question is, by going back to 'the beginning,' just how far back are we going? Have you read the http://www.crayven.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=12? I'm curious as to what sort of revising you had in mind.

Unless by 'the beginning' you mean the Operation I: Broken Arrow era?

Posted by: Sergeant Alex Thorn Nov 7 2009, 11:42 PM

Holy cow! I definitely want back in!

Posted by: Kei-teh Kintaru Nov 8 2009, 10:36 AM

By beginning I meant OP I Broken Arrow. I know my character didn't come onto the scene until OP II, but I'd still like to make a start from there if possible.

That sounds pretty intruiging. Okay, I'm on board. How does everyone else feel about this?

Wow, I apparently still had the forums subscribed to and set to text me when I got a message about new topics. I was extremely suprised to get 9 text messages yesterday about it. This is the first chance I got to get online and come check it out. I'm amazed that there's a facebook page about us, going to check that out next. But definately count me in for taking part in the site again.

Major Wolf! It warms the heart to see you again, sir. It's been too long.

Yes, there is a site about us. Search 'I'm a Mechwarrior' on Google. We are the top thread on the group's site.

Posted by: Kei-teh Kintaru Nov 8 2009, 12:55 PM

Six on board. Awesome biggrin.gif

I was thinking, if do go with the reboot idea, we might want to name this as "New Legionnaires" so that we dont confuse with the previous canon.

Lol, I just realised, if we do the reboot, we'll get to see Murlance again! biggrin.gif

Posted by: Major Adam 'Gunman' Wolf Nov 8 2009, 12:58 PM

I'm in for a restart, I'm in the same boat as the rest of you too, I remember most things but alot of the finer details have slipped my mind.

Yes it has been too long. I'm glad to see that the site is coming back. I've actually found myself thinking about it quite a bit recently oddly enough. Weird how that stuff works sometimes.

Posted by: Major Benjamin Maxwell Nov 8 2009, 01:26 PM

I am honored to see so many returning! A warm welcome back to everyone. If we're planning a reboot, then http://comstar.proboards.com/index.cgi will help everyone get caught back up on how it all started - the first time around!

Now that brings back memories.

So with this reboot are we going to still follow the same story kinda as before or are we just going to make it up as we go again, lol (I kinda like that better for the most part) and just use the basics of what we had for the canon and stuff?

Posted by: Kei-teh Kintaru Nov 8 2009, 01:39 PM

Just a suggestion - I'd like to reintroduce my character with him enlisting into the Legionnaires. I wouldn't mind starting off in the Cantina... for old times sake wink.gif

Theres also one thing I'd like to say. When we did this the first time round, I felt there was some unsaid critisism regarding the whole Kintaru/Ren arc. If anyone has a problem with it, don't be afriad to put me in my box and say you didn't like it. We can always re-work it.

Cheers, Keith

Posted by: Major Adam 'Gunman' Wolf Nov 8 2009, 02:21 PM

Yeah that would be a good place to start I think, the Cantina was always interesting. Now are we going to go back to our old base as well, before Site 187? Or do we want to keep 187? Just trying to get a feel for how much we are going to keep and how much we are going to start from scratch so I can start thinking of how to intro my character again, lol.

As for the Kintaru/Ren arc, as long as we keep it reasonably within battletech canon/rules I dont think there's any real issue. I mean we obviously get to take some creative license thats what makes it fun smile.gif

I think Tau Ceti IV would be an entirely appropriate locale to begin with, as long as everyone can deal with the fact that at some point it's going to get nuked to hell again (this actually happens in the BattleTech canon). The Thorin would be reintroduced as an Aurora-class DropShip, rather than one that I completely made up.

Posted by: Holmes Nets Nov 8 2009, 02:50 PM

Wow, now I haven't seen you folks in a long, long time. Years upon years, oh how things have changed. College has begun but I'll push for some time to do the good ol' thing in this place wink.gif

I'm down with that, although it kinda sucks knowing that the planet is going to get nuked it does make a cool plot point, lol.

You guys do realize that I'm now going to be spending way too much time looking up battletech stuff and comparing stats and all that crazy good stuff again, lol.

Great to see you back Holmes, its nice to see most of the people that made this site great to begin with coming back.

Posted by: Kei-teh Kintaru Nov 8 2009, 03:33 PM

Tau Ceti IV it is! I'm happy either way! Next question... when do we get it started?

Posted by: Major Adam 'Gunman' Wolf Nov 8 2009, 04:10 PM

Well I saw that Ben already put up a post with the planet info in the RP section, so I'm guessing that we're good to go fairly soon. As soon as I get some free time ( I'm back in college so I'm somewhat limited, but not too much) either tonight or tomorrow I'm going to rework my character. So are we keeping the Legionnaires history the same? Just wondering how much work I'm going to do on my character, lol.

Posted by: Kei-teh Kintaru Nov 8 2009, 04:14 PM

I've already done a drawing of my redesigned Kei-teh character. I'm getting excited biggrin.gif

I sent you a pm of my current ideas. If you could give me a thumbs up or down and let me know what you think, that would be great.

Cheers, Keith.

Exciting stuff! A fresh start could be just the ticket.
Count me in. Now I've got to backtrack and try to get back into Talus' shoes, so to speak.

Kudos everyone!

Posted by: Captain Benjamin Maxwell Nov 8 2009, 06:42 PM

Wonderful, Talus, and Holmes - it's great to have both of you back. Captain Wolf - I thought we could use the 'established' canon as our backdrop but start completely over and make it up as we go along, just as we did the first time. There are elements that will, of course, carry over, but if you've read my first post in Tau Ceti IV you'll see that the location of the Legonnaires FBO has been moved to New Foundation (the capitol city of Tau Ceti IV, although we never concretely established where it was the first time) and the description has been revamped. I hope everyone finds it suitable. Any suggestions, let me know.

Keith, I really like the revamped Kintaru. Very cool. And please feel free to reintroduce him in The Cantina - it's a nice homage to the 'original series.' Note that the Cantina should now be considered a part of the Tau Ceti IV thread - I'm trying to keep all the posts that take place on a single planet outside of the Ops consolidated - it was hell trying to jump around with our Locales posts in the old format when I went back to try and re-read them...they weren't linear at all. So I figure this time, we can open our posts in the Tau Ceti IV locale with a brief header indicating where it's taking place - there's an example in the opening post. (Of course, the header isn't necessary if your post follows immediately on the heels of another that takes place in the same location).

Comments on the new system? It should be much easier. Let me know what you all think.

Awesome, everything is looking great. I definately like the idea of keeping everything within one thread aside from the OPs, it was alright when we were active everyday cause you knew what was going on when but like you said to go back and read it now its like, huh!? what the hell is going on, lol.

Give me an idea of how you envision Talus and I'm pretty sure I can track down a MechWarrior: AOD pilot headshot that suits your needs. There are so many pilot cards in that game that there's something for everyone.

Posted by: Kazuki Kintaro Nov 10 2009, 05:08 PM

I drew another picture of Kazuki today (since my copy of Modern Warfare 2 didnt arrive!).

IPB Image

I decided to replace his katana with a stylish short blade. The blade shown there is about a foot long by two inches and is sharpened on both edges. A hidden switch causes it to extend another foot, changing it's shape from something akin to a flat wood file, to a more traditional ninjato (a ninja sword). The force of the released mechanism is enough to pierce soft flesh, but not metal or a similarly hard material. Also, in addition to this, a heating filiment is installed inside the blade, causing it to burn white hot after a few minutes of charging.

I was going to write about this in my post and in a character bio, but I have something else in mind. So I decided to tell you all about it here.

I've been writing and drawing Legionnaire stuff for well over four hours now. I need to get some sleep... LOL!

Cheers, Keith

Posted by: Captain Benjamin Maxwell Nov 10 2009, 05:37 PM

That is totally awesome, Keith! Very well-done. I look forward to hearing more about your character!

Folks, I've added another layer of 'atmosphere' to our RP by including links to various ambient musical tracks that I thought suited the storyline so far. The links to each track can be found at the bottom of various posts - I've taken the liberty of posting the first 11 tracks to the thread so far. Happy hunting, and let me know what you all think!

Posted by: Talus Nov 10 2009, 05:43 PM

I just noticed these a few minutes ago when I caught up on the thread. Much approval.
(I get a theme, how sweet is that! tongue.gif )
Out of interest, do you compose those tracks yourself or are they sourced from somewhere?

Posted by: Kazuki Kintaro Nov 10 2009, 05:52 PM

Awesome job with the music!

Am I the only one who is totally absorbed into this world we're created? There's some totally top notch writing going on right now! I'm loving it!

Posted by: Captain Benjamin Maxwell Nov 10 2009, 06:58 PM

Talus & Keith: Thanks for the feedback! I wish I could take credit for the music composition, but no, I actually source them from all over the place. I have a HUGE and eclectic music collection!

Keith: Totally agree. I'm loving it!

Not only is the universe itself astounding, but the variety, the diversity is astounding as well. Every person, every character brings their own unique writing style to the table.

Posted by: Captain Adam Wolf Nov 10 2009, 10:06 PM

All I can say is awesome. I can recall spending countless hours working on a single post before, and can see myself doing it again in the near future, lol. Trust me Keith you aren't the only one completely immersed. I find myself thinking about the site and the story and what I can do with my character almost all the time. I love how everyone has there own little style of writing and their own ideas on whats what and yet we all still make an amazing story thats coherent and great to read. Its amazing really.

BTW, I definately like the music, its always a nice touch.

Just kidding. Welcome aboard!

Thanks for the birthday wishes! I'm about ready to get back in (I'll update my character and all that good stuff). I had a bunch of animations due tonight (lame being as that it was my birthday and I realize I should have been asleep like 4 hours ago) but soon I'm back into things. One thing that I'm going to try and do as Kintaro is doing is do some art for my posts.

PS: Celina where'd you get your avatar from? I feel like I've seen that before.

As some of you may already be aware, the Tidewater Virginia area is dealing with some http://www.norfolk.va.us/News/Press/prdetails.asp?PressID=1573 as a result of the Nor'easter that recently hit the region. Because of this, all public safety officials in the area (including myself) are on-call today. I just wanted to let you all know I'm still here, and both Benjamin and the NPCs will be posting more later on tonight.

PThanks, guys. I wanted to touch bar with you all and let you know what my status is. As of 2108 hours Eastern time, 25,000 Tidewater area residents (including myself) are without power - including the police department. You may have seen
it on the news. Anyway, what this boils down to is that Hobson will not be posting tonight. Lance Callahan, hang tight, buddy. I have a post handwritten already and am going to transcribe it as soon as the lights come back on ~ it is simply too much to try to post using my phone. But rest assured you will get your reply. In the interim, everyone, feel free to go ahead and post - we all make this site what it is!

Needn't worry a thing about it, you've got better things to be doing now anyway wink.gif Oh, and if you'd like to still call me Holmes you may still feel free to, whichever is more comfortable to you. I'm still the same, just a new mask to the man! rolleyes.gif

Posted by: Captain Benjamin Maxwell Nov 13 2009, 12:04 PM

Much appreciated, Lance. You're a valued member of this group and I thank you - and everyone else - for their involvement!

Here's my status update as of 1145 EST: Major flooding in many parts of the area. The police department where I work & jail have power again, but my neighborhood is still out. Called Virginia Dominion Power and they advised power should be restored by 1230 PM. Still reaching this site via phone & wishing I still had my SideKick - the BlackBerry is intolerably slow. I'm headed out to go get some warm food now - I'll post an update when I get back in.

Keith: what admin functions are you missing? The control panel update wasn't supposed to downgrade your account. PM me with details so I can sort it out!

Posted by: Captain Benjamin Maxwell Nov 13 2009, 01:51 PM

I'm pleased to report that the power is back on and I'm back on the grid! Hobson's post should be up soon.

Posted by: Captain Benjamin Maxwell Nov 13 2009, 03:19 PM

ADMINISTRATORS: Did any of you receive the test e-mails I sent out earlier?

Posted by: Kazuki Kintaro Nov 14 2009, 12:20 PM

Ben: I have my forum admin powers (deleting posts etc) but I am missing the site administration powers that allow me to delete spam accounts. It's not a big issue though. As for the test email, I'm afraid I didnt receive one.

Glad to hear things are fairling up a little better your end. Stay safe!

Posted by: Captain Benjamin Maxwell Nov 14 2009, 02:14 PM

All right, folks, I've contacted technical support for some intervention on the broken admin settings and the malfunctioning e-mail server and I have the following answers:

1.) The software we are running our message boards on is over 4 years old (the last update was when we did the community fundraising drive and raised enough to purchase what was, at the time, the brand-spanking new Invision 2.1.7 setup) and is no longer supported by GoDaddy.com or Invision.

2.) Invision Power Board version 2.1.7 contains a number of major security holes (don't freak out, your accounts are perfectly safe) that allow for spambots to circumvent the registration process and flood the boards with new accounts, creating havoc with the Linux server and resulting in a crash on 12 November 2009 at 12:25 PM, taking the entire crayven.net domain offline for about ten minutes that day.

3.) These security holes can allow a hacker to crawl into our PHP database (again, your accounts and passwords are perfectly safe as they are not hosted locally) and tamper with / alter / destroy board settings. Apparently, during the crash on November 12th, our PHP-based mailserver was attacked and crippled to the extent that I cannot repair it, some of the board moderation settings were deleted, and because the boards are out of warranty, Invision will not repair them for us.

4.) What this all means is that continuing under Invision 2.1.7 means putting our six-year legacy of posts here and on comstar.proboards37.com in danger of attack and / or being complete loss. Whereas database backups can be made of the majority of these posts, the actual infrastructure of the site's message boards would not be able to be restored without a board license.

5.) The good news is that Invision has now released Invision Power Board version 3.0.4, which corrects all of these security holes, has improved functionality and individual customization options, and adds reCAPTCHA support which eliminates spambots & automated registrations. More features can be found http://www.invisionpower.com/products/board/.

6.) In order to provide this badly-needed upgrade, a one-time license needs to be purchased. The license costs $149.99, which seems like a lot, but I've done the math and figured out that if even four members of this forum were willing to contribute about $30.00 each, we could have the license purchased and set up within the next few days. Last time we did a community fundraising drive, it resulted in this entire domain and the amazing legacy that followed. As before, I'm willing to contribute to the effort myself.

7.) Alternatively, I could purchase the license myself, but I'm not sure how long it would be before I could do so. In addition to the monthly hosting costs that I'm already paying to run the site, I have quite a few real-life expenses that unfortunately take precedence.

As always, I am presenting this proposal to the community for their input, as I value the opinions of all of you and am willing to do as the community sees fit. For those of you who are new to this group, and may have reservations about making a PayPal donation to this effort, I encourage you to http://comstar.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=news&action=display&thread=244&page=1#2069 to calm any worries you might have. wink.gif

For anyone on board, the old fundraising account still exists http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/ema/index-outside, with the crownvic82@cox.net funding address.

So what does everyone think about this?

Posted by: Kazuki Kintaro Nov 14 2009, 04:03 PM

I'm willing to chip in! I had problems with Pay Pal last time though. I'm willing to send $30 directly to you if I am unable to get around the problems I have with it.

Posted by: Talus Nov 14 2009, 04:19 PM

I've never had any issues with Paypal. I take it that's $30 in USD though?

Posted by: Kazuki Kintaro Nov 14 2009, 06:09 PM

The issues I have with Pay Pal is, it wont allow me to do a direct debit from my bank account. In order to use pay pal, I have to pay money into my account via my bank. The problem I have is, every time I use Pay Pal (which is very rare) I get questioned by pay pal because I am a Brit living in Germany using a German bank. So what would normally take 3-5 working days to process becomes a 14-21 day pain in the ass of confirming who I am.

Oh how I love banking over here... lol!

Posted by: Captain Adam Wolf Nov 14 2009, 06:10 PM

If it wasn't for the tight spot that going back to school has put me in I would have donated before even replying, lol. Sadly at this point in time I can't put up anything, even just $30. However, if the update is purchased, I will gladly help pay for it when I do get some money, which will be earyl next year with my Co-op through school.

Posted by: Lance Callahan Nov 14 2009, 06:25 PM

Instead of using Invision, we could use SMF: http://www.simplemachines.org/

It's an absolutely free, OPEN SOURCE forum software on par (as far as I can tell) with Invision. Although we might not be able to easily transfer the posts over, its free use and modability (thanks to its open source code) allows an excellent source for our community, I believe.

Let the features speak for themselves:

http://www.simplemachines.org/about/features.php

Because it's free and open-source, updates are a simple matter of downloading the newest version and updating the forums. If we decide to change any functionality, we go in and edit it how WE want it (PHP isn't hard to learn if you know any other language).

Posted by: Kazuki Kintaro Nov 14 2009, 06:30 PM

Just changing the subject slightly - I spent about four hours rewriting and even redrawing the picture I used in my latest post. Rather than letting the old one go to waste, I've decided to link it in here.

IPB Image

Originally, I wasnt going to factor in Kintaro meeting with Vivi G straight away, so I drew this picture as a place holder until they met face to face. However, as I was writing, I ended up changing what I had originally planned and realised "Shit, that picture doesnt really fit into context now...". So I rushed the picture that is in my post now. I kind of wished I hadnt, but there you go!

Its gone midnight here. I need some sleep.

Bis morgan zusammen!

Posted by: Captain Benjamin Maxwell Nov 14 2009, 07:26 PM

Yes, Talus - all figures are in USD. If I could even raise $75.00 - $100.00 I'd match it and spring for the forums, because we definitely need it, and with all respect to SMF, which I think is a great project, I've looked it over and it isn't very compatible with the way the Invision databases are scripted. I'd prefer to update and secure what we have here right now as opposed to migrating to a new system and leave this forum still vulnerable. I completely understand if no one can donate - I've got expenses too and I know how it goes.

Keith - I think the sketch looks great! It really fits into the color of your post. Very cool!

Posted by: Talus Nov 15 2009, 02:57 AM

It should be coming at you in a day or three, the bank just has to transfer money into my Paypal account, and it's the weekend here.

@Kieth: Mad props on all the visuals so far.

Posted by: Kazuki Kintaro Nov 15 2009, 03:11 PM

Ben - My admin powers have come back now. Thanks for sorting that! Also, I'll be trying out Pay Pal sometime this week, so fingers crossed! I'll update you as it happens.

Talus - thanks for the comments matey. I'll be doing more sketches in the future!

Posted by: Captain Benjamin Maxwell Nov 15 2009, 05:28 PM

Talus; Keith - I want you to know I really appreciate it. This is an area where we have an urgent need and your contributions mean a great deal. Thank you for helping to ensure the SAFE future of this site!

Posted by: MechWarrior Alex Thorn Nov 15 2009, 05:40 PM

I wish I could contribute. But I'm really tight on money (working 2 days a week at minimum wage due to class and have a car payment to make) and cant at the time. If need be come later I will gladly help. I finish school next semester so hopefully after that I can get a job and can help with this stuff

Posted by: Captain Benjamin Maxwell Nov 15 2009, 05:49 PM

No worries, Alex! Believe me, I understand! I don't want or expect you to do anything that's beyond your means. Keep contributing your great stuff that brings our RP's universe to life - it doesn't cost anything, and it makes a richer and more engaging storyline that I for one am honored to be a part of!

Well Keith inspired me to do some artistic work. This is supposed to represent my character and the fact that he is from Clan Wolf-in-Exile. Now before you all get gung-ho about this drawing I have a few notes on it. First of all it was done completely digitally. Second I took two digital paintings done by Andrew Berends and Kev Crossley. I took them, combined them to my liking, and basically traced them and made a few changes as I went along. Yes its not my own completely but once I get some more practice with my pen tablet Ill do one of my own. The color is also my doing. Hope you guys enjoy. I also admit I dont like the face. Doesnt seem to match to me. Oh well hope you guys like it

I am truly jealous of your guys artistic talents. I'm still limited to photoshoping all my images, anything beyond basic geometric shapes and angles and I'm done, lol.

In the interest of fair comparison, I've set up a test SMF forum at http://www.crayven.net/smf/. Note that I have been unsuccessful at converting any of our IBF databases or our custom board modifications (such as the rank icons, etc) over to SMF format, although some of you might know some tricks that I don't. Please check it out and compare it to our Invision install, and let me know what you all think.

Alex - Nice job on the picture! Keep on drawing - I'd love to see more of your work!

Ben - I'll be paying a visit to my bank this Thursday to try and get my donation transfered to my PayPal account. You should be seeing my donation sometime next week or the week after depending on whether or not my bank is wearing an asshat at the time.

Also, the SMF forum, while I appreciate it is free, feels a little bit of a downgrade. Don't get me wrong, its nice, I just like what we have here smile.gif

Talus - Thank you for getting the ball rolling! biggrin.gif

One other thing - I'll be posting today with Kintaro meeting the Legionnaires on April 14th. I know Sergeant Hobson has moved the timeline forward a bit, but I'll be sure to mark this as being on the 14th. I hope this is okay with everyone! If not, I can always edit it.

Cheers, Keith

Ben I use a Wacom Bamboo Fun tablet. Its a little small for my taste ( the actual pen area is like 4x6). I would love to have one of the larger ones that has the screen in it but I cant afford the $2000 for one, but I enjoy using it. On another note I will try and get a post up later today. I have to get some stuff done this morning so I should have a post up by tonight

You mean one of these?
IPB Image
biggrin.gif
That Cintiq 12WX represents probably my single greatest investment to date ($1300 AUD with a tertiary [university] student discount). Digital inking and colouring is improved by several orders of magnitude simply by being able to draw on screen.
When I first began working digitally I was using your bamboo line of tablets, they're actually quite good once you get used to looking in a different direction than your drawing hand - just a step down from the professional Intuos 3 and new Intuos 4 lines (the Intuos 4 looks really impressive, I'm eager to try it out).
The Wacom Cintiqs still top the lot though.

As for posting, I didn't want to clutter Ben's PM inbox anymore with this, so I'll announce it here for the masses to peruse at their leisure - I'm going to bed. dry.gif Which means I'll put aside the drafted version of my post (replying to Hobbes and regaling you all with thrilling details of organising the away team), and upload it in the morning, six or seven hours from now (after a quick redraft).

EDIT: Does anyone else find themselves accidentally referring to Sgt. Hobson as 'Hobbes' (ala Calvin and Hobbes), as I have just done? I catch myself doing it all the time!

Posted by: Captain Adam Wolf Nov 17 2009, 02:38 PM

I think its kinda like his unofficial nickname, I know I've done it before, and I'm sure you and I aren't the only ones Talus, lol.

BTW I wish I could afford one of those pads, I may not be big on drawing but I'm sure I could use it to great effect when editing photos in photoshop, I've played a bit with one of the entry level bamboo ones but thats about it.

I did, actually. At first it seemed to be working fine, but then it hit a table it didn't like and crashed the entire database I was working on.

Everyone still here? Op I is underway.

Posted by: Lance Callahan Nov 19 2009, 11:44 PM

For no other reason than my own entertainment, I've been playing around in the free online music notation website Noteflight these past couple of days. I elected to base this quick piece around the Legionnaires. Unfortunately it's a very MIDI-level recording with incredibly simplistic devices involved (for example, no dynamic changes so things don't get louder or softer except by quantum leaps). Additionally, I can't change the tempo mid-way through which is an incredible inconvenience to what should be a much slower section.

Regardless, those points aside, this is the best 'raw' iteration I've gotten so far. Recommendations and criticisms are more than welcome (considering it's got Legionnaires in the title tongue.gif ). I've removed my real name, just so you know laugh.gif

http://www.noteflight.com/scores/view/fbaac070430548b1cea40282fa3ac33a7d99be56

Just a bit of background, I based this specific version around the past of the Legionnaires. I attempted to follow the history with the music, although most of it is very 'brief.'

Still here, just waiting for an opportunity. I wasn't quite sure how long we had until the jump point. Probably a post coming at you tomorrow morning (six or eight hours).

Posted by: Captain Adam Wolf Nov 20 2009, 11:42 AM

Well unless there's something specific to be done at the Saffel jump point I believe we are all set to head planetside, I believe there is still a couple day journey to get to Saffel (unless we coerced the Arrow to use a pirate jump point muchcloser to Saffel) so we're just about ready to go full out. Depending on what time I have between work, school projects this weekend I might make a post about getting the BattleMaster ready for hot drop. But don't hold back on my account.

Hey folks -

I just realized there was a typo in the donation post. The correct e-mail address to donate to on PayPal is crownvic82@cox.net. The address, as originally typed, was missing a letter. Funds sent to that incorrect address will be bounced back by the system. Again, the correct address is c r o w n v i c 8 2 @ c o x . n e t.

If anyone's tried donating besides Talus, please re-submit your donation on the system.

Thanks!

Ben

Mega-props to Holmes for that composition. I was imagining the whole thing rendered in full military band all the way through. Good stuff. Although you're right, last third really needed to be at a lower tempo.

I'll throw out another post in the OP later tonight (in a few hours) or tomorrow morning (A few more hours), in the wake of all this mass-murder shenanigans. Schuster you rogue, you. cool.gif

Sorry for the double post - I will be posting in the OP tomorow as my network is continually being shut down by Vista. After constant PC restarts, I have about 10 mins before the network will shut itself down. I've been trying to sort it all day, and I think I may have finally cracked it, but to be honest, I'm sick of looking at my computer after spending about 4 hours trying to fix it.

tl;dr - I'll be posting tomorow.

Thanks, Keith! And on the subject of PayPal, I'm pleased and very honored to announce that the new forum fund has received its second donation. The current balance stands at $70.00 USD. Thanks very much to a contributor who wishes to remain anonymous for his contribution!

Lance - cool music! I look forward to seeing what else you come up with.

Just a quick question guys - now that Dash/Wedge/Retard's past two posts have been confirmed as a drug induced hallucination, should I edit my last post to reflect this?

Cheers, Keith

P.S, I have been laughing intermittenly over Dash's and Wedge's last post for the past 5 and a half hours. Will Sawbones be avaliable for a quick 'depressant' shot? When I say I'm laughing intermittenly, I mean that I'm laughing so hard and loud that people from within my branch are now very concerned about me. I need a despressant to bring me out of this natural high.

EDIT - Thanks Ben for clearing that up! Make sure that post has been saved for their inevitable return - it was hilarious biggrin.gif

Posted by: Commodore Benjamin Maxwell Nov 23 2009, 08:47 AM

Don't change a thing! I actually whacked Hobson's for the time being as yours was so much funnier. I can absolutely say, without reservation, that the post you just made is one of the most hysterical things I've ever read on this site.

I'm pleased and very honored to announce that the new forum fund has received another donation. The current balance stands at $108.14 USD. Thanks very much to Keith for his contribution!

Additionally, I've received a couple of PMs asking, in particular, what the Thorin looks like. I'd like to share http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvPiu-bBMws with you all, prepared by students of the DAVE school, that shows what a full-scale BattleMech & support attack looks like (Kerensky's Wolf Hunters are the antagonists). The twin DropShips that show up at 3:55 are Auroras, the class to which the Thorin belongs.

Awesome, love the video.

There's an old video, I think from one of the in game cutscenes of mechwarrior 3, that has shows a dropship hotdropping a pair of 'mechs in the desert. Looks almost identical to those Auroras so I guess I've had the right image in mind at least when talking about it, lol.

A hiatus works; I know I for one am going home for the holidays and won't have much computer access (parents live in the stone age). Plus if you're going to be doing a major board upgrade this weekend it probably wouldn't be good for people to be doing a whole lot of posting. Happy Thanksgiving everyone! See you all Monday!

Hiatus it is then. A notice has been posted in the Active Op. Everybody have a Happy Thanksgiving! See you all on Monday! Anticipate a shiny new board setup upon your return!

I'd say Happy Thanksgiving to the wacky americans too but I've already been beat, twice, lol. Instead I'll just wish a Happy Thanksgiving to all my american buddies down south (I live in Canada, just to clarify, lol) and have a great weekend.

Looking forward to the new board layout Ben, as long as I can keep the cool black and orange, or a black and green background layout tongue.gif
