Just to let everyone know, this posting doesnt fit in with any part of the RP. Its just a little something that I decided to write up to kind of get back into the whole RP thing. Unfortunately it is not meant to indicate the return of Adam 'Gunman' Wolf or anything as of yet. That aside, I hope you'll enjoy my little scenario, and I hope I've still got it lol.

The scene ahead of me was almost surreal. The gentle rolling hill lazily sloping off to the South and East while the sun set slowly behind and a little to my right, outlined the small farming community in a subtle glow. The large towers made of concrete and steel, silos I believe they were called on ancient Terra, casting long shadows providing ample cover for our mission. Fortunately the place had been abandoned several years ago, yet the structures remained almost entirely intact. The large manors and smaller farm houses forming a makeshift village, along with what one could assume to be a store of some sort and an old fuel station. About a dozen large 'silos' were scattered along the outer edges of the natural plateau that this once teeming little community sat upon.

Along the Northern edges of the town the lumbering form of a Legionnaire model Battlemech could be seen patrolling rather slowly. The sun glinting off its singular weapon, a large multi-barrelled Rotary Autocannon 5, as it strode along twisting a little side to side in a seemingly sloppy scanning motion. Aside from the somewhat obvious presence of the Legionnaire no one would guess that a Thanatos Mk II lay hidden within the town. Powered down between one of the larger barns and a couple of taller silos the 'mech was all but invisible hiding in the shadows. As I shifted my sight farther towards the southern edge of town I caught sight of the Vulture class omnimech lumbering forward at near flank speed. The oversized cockpit shifting in a wide arc as the torso was swung left and right as though searching for something as it ran.

Well so far so good, Tiger lance is all accounted for now and everything seems to be going according to plan.

I took another moment to survey the quaint little community, despite it being completely abandoned it still seemed to eminate a sense of peace and almost made one feel at home. The nostalgic feeling was only briefly interupted by the presence of the two visible 'mechs as the lumbered along, but it returned as soon as one stopped focusing on them. Just as the feeling began to settle in again though it was brutally shattered as a bluish green trail slammed violently into a silo. The Gauss round impact caved in the front side of the silo and sent debris spewing out of the gaping wound the exiting slug had left on the back side. Shortly thereafter the silo crumpled to the ground no longer able to support itself.

Snapping my view towards the edge of a distant hill to the south west I spotted the culprit, a Crusader class 'mech a little more than 1 km away from myself and bout 600m from his closest edge of town.

"Tiger lance, this is Tiger-4 looks like our guests have arrived. Seeing as how badly he missed his mark, and how anxious he seems to be I'm willing to bet he's a rookie."

"Roger that Tiger-4, he seemed pretty anxious to chase me back there, he should have a buddy with him though."

"This is Tiger-2 I'm locked and loaded just waiting for them to enter the city."

A green blip was all that I got from Tiger-1, he was keeping radio silence until he fully powered up just like we planned.

"Boogey-2 spotted, its a Rifleman about 150m behind the Crusader." I called out the Rifleman crested the same hill. They were moving along somewhat slowly for having been chasing Tiger-3 in his Vulture but that was no cause for concern. The Rifleman must be a little more experienced and is at least attempting to reign in his gun-ho comrade.

Settling my 'mech even further down into its crouch I positioned the Clan Gauss Rifle, held in the right hand of my 'mech, like a sniper rifle the infantry use. Using the shoulder of the mech to brace and the knee of the left leg to steady my left arm as I placed the barrell into my hand. Although not entirely possible to do, I tried my best to assume a standard kneeling firing position with the 'mech. The Gauss rifle was designed as a complete stand alone weapon that the 'mech had to hold onto like an infantry weapon, the reasoning was that I found it more accurate to aim given the time and proper situation and it allowed the weapon to be quickly discarded if necessary in an emergency situation. As I finished settling into position I linked up the enhanced imaging suite of the advanced cockpit into the modified Target Acquisition Gear mounted on top of the Gauss rifle like a scope. The extra target information was relayed through external cabling running straight from the TAG to the right side of the cockpit. From there it fed directly into the long-range targetting computer of my Pheonix Hawk and was displayed on the HUD with detailed range, elevation, and wind speed information, along with a slightly enhanced optical zoom. With a few slight adjustments of my 'mechs arms I was able to line up the rifle with the oncoming Crusader and got a clean read of 850m.

"What are you doing Wolf? That 'mech is way outta range still and besides nobody could hit that damn thing at max range anyways." Came the annoying voice of the commanding officer, still safely stationed a couple kilometers away from the town and any planned engagements. He was able to see everything that was going on through satellite imaging and a direct link with each 'mechs onboard cameras.

Typical desk job commander, doesn't know a thing about real combat... I thought with disgust as I rolled my eyes a bit.

"What have you got anyways Wolf? A set of 3 medium lasers, an AMS, and a single Gauss rifle. What the hell are you gonna do with that? Its not even integrated into the 'mech properly."

"This, sir," I put about as much disgust into the word as I could get away with," just so happens to be 12 tonnes of pure unadultered long ranged goodness." I said as I lightly tapped the side of the Gauss rifle." It uses 16 high conductive super-cooled electromagnets, each one weighing approximately 1/2 tonne, set up in 8 series of 2 parallel magnets each to accelerate a depleted uranium slug to speeds in excess of Mach 10 in less than 10m. This allows for a near instantaneous impact at distances of up to 750m with maximum force. Even further if you know what your doing. The slug itself is only slightly larger than an AC/5 round yet hits with such force that it literally shatters all but the heaviest of armour. Seriously, you'd need a couple tonnes of hardened armour between you and the slug to survive a direct hit, and even then its not a sure thing. So, as Im sure you know ... Sir ..." I put just as much disgust into this one as well, although I was smiling thinking about the expression that was probably on his face right now," all these components work together to make this one of the most lethal weapons available to us. All these complex parts, working together, to achieve, one, single. Result."

As I finished stating the last several words I paused purposefully between words, both for effect and to align my sights with now much closer Crusader 'mech. As I spoke the word 'result' I gently and fluidly squeezed the firing trigger on the right joystick which in turn caused the Pheonix Hawk to smoothly pull the trigger on the Gauss Rifle causing the weapon to roar to life in an instant. The sound of several mini sonic booms could be heard resounding within the barrell of the weapon before blasting out as a single solid Thumph! A green spiralling trail followed greedily after the uranium slug as it speed towards its target. The gentle breeze washing down from the higher hills to the north causing the stream to began dissipating almost before the point of impact. The depleted uranium slug slammed into the rather exposed canopy on the top of the Crusader Battlemech. The sheer force of the impact causing the 'mech to be wrenched down and away from the slug as the ferro-glass canopy exploded into thousands of deadly needle like shards. As the 'mech began to automatically right itself a second blast seemed to blow out the right side of the cockit as the Gauss round exited the head of the 'mech and burrowed into the ground a few metres past. The Crusader 'mech had already begun to fall to its knees by the time the sound wave reached its external sensors, the poor pilot never would know what hit him as the 65 tonne humanoid machine collapsed against a nearby manor house, caving all but its sturdiest walls.

"What the..." I heard the commander start to mutter something over the radio before I cut him off and gave a quick report to my comrades in Tiger Lance.

"Boogey-1 is down, repeat Crusader is KIA. Tiger-3 looks like the Rifleman's got his eye on you.

I've got 2 more Boogey's moving in. ID shows 'em as a Warhammer and a Wolverine."

"Copy that."

"Roger, moving to intercept."

The Legionnaire that Tiger-2 piloted spun quickly around on its patrol and began to accelerate towards the Eastern edge of the town, hoping to flank the 2 additional contacts as they entered the city from due south. The Rifleman let loose with both LB-10X AC and peppered the back and left side of Tiger-3's Vulture with the shotgun-like blasts. While not causing any serious damage at that range, the weapons were definately not to be disregarded especially once a little closer. Tiger-3 returned fired with the left mounted Ultra AC/5 scoring two hits to the enemy's left torso.

Man made lightning slams into a farm house instantly lighting it on fire as twin PPCs go wide of their mark, the Warhammer Heavy 'mech barrelling into town at full speed with both barrels still glowing. A steady hum begins to reverberate through some of the smaller silos to the East for a few moments before the large calibre rounds of the Legionnaire's Rotary AC/5 come pounding through the structures. Several rounds find their mark on the right arm of the Warhammer as Tiger-2 smashes violently through the structurally weakened silos. As the Warhammer turned to face the new threat I squeezed off another round from the Clan Gauss rifle, the uranium slug going slightly wide of its intended mark and slamming into the left shoulder of the 70 tonne war machine instead of its right arm.

Meanwhile the Rifleman had managed to close in upon the Vulture of Tiger-3 and brought his full weapons suite to bear. Just as he unleashed the first flurry of emerald laser beams and tightly grouped AC cluster rounds into the front of Tiger-3's 'mech, the Thanatos Mk II piloted by Tiger-1 rose from its slumber almost directly behind the surprised Rifleman. Before the Rifleman could react Tiger-1 unleashed hell's fury in the form of an LRM-20 salvo, a light Gauss Rife round, and an ER PPC into the vulnerable rear of the enemy 'mech. As the electric energy of the Particle Projection Cannon washed over the right torso of the Rifleman a deadly secondary explosion went off as the AC rounds stored there were cooked off. The CASE system of the 'mech was barely able to contain the blast as several rounds fired off through the front armour before the venting started. With the ammo feed to its right Autocannon destroyed the Rifleman was much less of a threat and Tiger-3 moved off in search of another target firing its twin, chin-mounted. medium pulse lasers as a few parting shots that bathed the enemy's left arm and leg with a gentle emerald glow while leaving small rivulets of molten armour.

The Warhammer, having turned to face the Legionnaire, was much more accurate with its second salvo of PPC fire. The twin globes of devasting energy sparkled and glowed vehemently before tearing the right arm clean away from Tiger-2's 'mech. The molten armour ran down the right side of the torso for several feet before finally solidifying as Tiger-2 let loose with a full out barrage of fully automatic RAC/5 fire. The heavy rounds from the autocannon ripped a deep scar across the front of the Warhammer as the Legionnaire raked the stream from the enemy's right shoulder down across the left torso. Several rounds managed to penetrate the thick armour along the left torso of the 70 ton beast but otherwise it weathered the fire quite well. Firing its twin ER medium lasers while waiting for the PPCs to cycle the Warhammer pilot slammed down on the jump jets as it lifted backwards in an attempt to escape the deadly stream of AC rounds. Tiger-2 let off the trigger for a moment and the enemy dropped back to the ground, its jets exhausted for the moment. The second the boogey touched down I had another shot lined up, as soon as the 'mech had compensated for the landing I fired off a third round. This time hitting my mark on the right arm, albeit a little low. The heavy weight slug shattered the armour on the upper arm and ripped through the extremely vulnerable mynomer muscle beneath. Several severed actuators and mynomer tendons were left hanging out the side of the gaping wound rendering the arm useless for aiming, although the weapons would still function.

Several rounds exploded into the dirt near the feet of my Pheonix Hawk I quickly glanced down and saw that the Wolverine had made my position was advancing quickly. I had nearly forgotten about him, and it may have cost me if I didnt still have an ace in the hole.

"Rain-Lead, I've got a target for you. High altitude trajectory, approximately 500m dead ahead. Let loose on my mark."

"Roger that Tiger-4, primed and ready."

I shifted as quickly as I could from the sniper position and managed to line up my sights on the advancing 55 tonne enemy 'mech. Squeezing the firing trigger I slammed a Gauss round home into the heavy chest armour of the enemy unit. The shot knocked my diminuitive 45 tonne 'mech slightly off balance but manged to bring the charging enemy to a dead halt as the slug found its mark slightly off centre. The twist delivered to the Wolverine Battlemech from the impact was just enough to throw its aim off as it fired another salvo of RAC/2 rounds at me. Several shots still finding their mark as they scored and chipped away at my rather weak armour. A single round found itself lucky enough to smash into the lower section of the head, well below the canopy, and set of a myriad of alarms and kalxons within the cockpit.

"NOW!" I hollered into the com as I slammed the silence buttons for the various alarms.

No sooner had I given the command and I could hear the tell tale Whoosh! of LRM missiles being launched from behind me.

"Payload has cleared launched, impact in T-minus 10 seconds ... give or take." replied the leader of Rain squad with a slight chuckle.

Rain squad consisted of 3 LRM carriers that were stationed only a few metres behind my 'mech just past the crest of the hill. Each LRM carrier boasted 3 LRM-20 racks with 12 salvos per rack. Two of the three carriers were armed with standard LRM munitions while the third carrier was loaded with deadly Swarm munitions. Rain-Lead had always had a rather twisted sense of humour and loved the idea of being able to rain down destruction while still staying relatively safe. Most men and women would find that ideal, just most don't have a demented cackling laughter that rings out as they watch the missiles fall from the sky.

As the 180 LR missiles finished their arc into the sky and began to descend the demented cackling of Rain-Lead began to filter over the comm channels. I began to wonder, as I had many times before, why he wasnt in an asylum until the missiles made contact. Despite being rather crazed, the guy was one of the few vehicle commanders that I had heard of capable of using indirect fire to such effectiveness. As such, our commander saw it fit to keep him around for the time being at least. As the missiles descended they spiralled around each other lazily, each one leaving a thick smoky trail behind it. They numbered so many that the missiles and their smoke trails nearly blotted out the sky entirely for several moments until the breeze began to clear the trailing edges of the smoke tails. About 30m above the doomed Wolverine 60 of the missiles exploded into countless little bomblets that would saturate the area below them in a maelstrom of death. The pilot of the minorly wounded 55 ton 'mech fired its jump jets in a vain attempt to escape its impending doom. At first the pilot seemed to have succedded as the first several missiles and bomblets detonated ferociously, yet harmlessly upon the ground where he had been a second earlier. But then the missiles began to rain down upon him and all around him as the curtain of projectiles slammed home. The missiles hit first, driving deep into the shoulders of the flying 'mech, each impact throwing it more and more off balance and causing the jets to overcompensate and worsen the delicate aireal balance of the machine. Then, as the bomblets struck home across the back side of the 'mech, the jets sputtered and gave out entirely as the armour was torn to shreds. Feebly the Wolverine Battlemech attempted to use its arms as support during its crash and again to try and rise against the onslaught but each missile drove it back deeper into the earth. With the armour being left non-existent along its exposed back and sides the 55 ton 'mech fell to the final bomblets and missiles of the massive salvo as the HE warheads penetrated into reactor shielding and other vital components. The CASE system unable to handle the internal explosions as the 'mech ripped apart at the seams leaving only a burnt out husk of the front half of the once venerable Wolverine Battlemech.

"Tiger lance, this is Rain-Lead, we are moving to hill top to provide direct fire support. Let us know if you've got a target for us."

"Will do Rain-Lead, Tiger-1 out."

Having turned to face the Thanatos Mk II threat, the pilot of the enemy Rifleman unloaded everything he had into the Assault 'mech's body. Unfortunately for Tiger-1 armour had been greatly sacrificed on his 'mech in order to accomodate the massive weapons load out so the alpha strike hit home hard. The twin ER Medium Lasers and single ER small laser penetrated straight through the armour on the right torso, What little armour that was left was melted and hung uselessly in long strands from various internal components. The LB-10X AC cluster round was the most lethal though, the majority of the rounds ripped into the Thanatos' right arm but a couple of rounds found their way into the exposed internals of the torso and decimated the ECM suite located there and punched a hole straight through the coolant pod. As coolant leaked deep into the internals Tiger-1 fired off its final PPC blast before the weapon shorted out, bluish lightning raced across the 'mechs right torso remnants and right arm, flash melting small bits of armour before dissipating into a crackling wave of heat. The PPC blast struck the Rifleman in the left torso, tearing through the majority of the armour there. While Tiger-1's own LB-10X AC fire slug rounds into the molten armour. The slugs ripped into the soft armour and scored several critical hits to some internals but no real visible damage was done. Unsatisified with his retaliation Tiger-1 unleashed the Light Gauss Rifle mounted in the Left arm of his 'mech at the enemy's head. Missing only slightly the round instead connected with the center torso leaving a fairly large impact crater in the still fairly thick armour. As the Rifleman unleashed another round of laser fire the Thanatos responded in turn with a volley of LRMs. All 20 missiles managed to find their mark on the battered 'mech and left the 60 tonne Rifleman the worse for the wear. The Thanatos took a heavy hit from the lasers though as the ER Small laser and one ER Medium laser scored deep into the center torso while the second medium laser landed a direct hit on the left torso.

The Vulture having left the Rifleman and Thanatos to duke it out, quickly drew a bead on the Warhammer who was laying a beating on the poor Legionnaire. The enemy had managed to score several laser hits all across Tiger-2 along with a couple of PPC shots which had left the Legionnaire missing its right arm, with its ECM suite disabled, its targetting computer about to go, and with severe damage across both the right and centre torsos. The Warhammer on the other hand was still weathering the RAC/5 salvos fairly well, having only suffered moderate damage across all three front torsos and a few rounds on the legs and arms. Determined to help out Tiger-2, the pilot of the Vulture Omnimech opened fire with twin UAC/5s alternating from one to the other in their Ultra mode so that it was a near continous rain of single round AC/5 salvos that slammed into the unsuspecting Warhammer from the back and left. The first few rounds simply impact the armour jarring the 70 tonne machine slightly, but each round further penetrated into the beast until the armour finally started to break away. A good hit exposed the better portion of the left rear torso, while the left arm and leg slowly chipped away leaving deep heavy scars and craters in the weathered armour. Attempting to turn and face this new threat the Warhammer pilot exposed its wounded right side to Legionnaire, who, while badly wounded, still posed a great threat with its solitary RAC/5 still operational. Winding the weapon up into full auto again Tiger-2 unleashed a hail of bullets that ripped deep into the enemy's side. As the cascading rain of autocannon rounds cracked through the weakened armour the Warhammer's jump jet flared violently from a critical hit before detonating inside its containment. The small explosion disrupted the Heavy 'mechs targeting computer as it unleashed its PPCs at the Vulture. Both balls of lightning still managed to hit the same target of the left leg. The crackling energy tore violently through the armour and wreaked havoc on the actuators powering the lower leg, causing the mynomer tendons to fuse together from the heat and thereby gimping Tiger-3. Unabated Tiger-3 unleashed another full set of UAC/5 rounds and laser fire to accompany it. The lasers impacting first ripped deep holes into the previously weakened armour along the left side of the 'mech while the 4 AC 5 rounds shattered internals and cracked what little armour remained. The RAC/5 on the Legionnaire jammed from the continous firing just as the Warhammer pilot took flight with its remaining two jump jets in an attempt to retreat from its unfavourable engagement.

"God damn son of a ...." Was all that Tiger-3 said before cutting off his own comm.

Rain-Lead seemed to take it as an open invitation for them and responded in kind,
" He sure is a son of a !#$@%! Let's fix his ass boys. Tiger-2 we're sending some heavy rain your way, over."

With that the two LRM carriers armed with standard munitions let fly a salvo of missiles numbering 120 in all. The thick blackish grey smoke resembling heavy storm clouds as the missile trails began to drift in the wind. Around two thirds of the missiles managed to find their mark somewhere on the critically wounded Warhammer and great 'mech went down as actuators failed and its internal structure began to buckle. Surprisingly the reactor shielding managed to hold together despite having suffered a critical hit from the RAC/5 barrage that Tiger-2 had put the 'mech under.

"HAHA! Another bites the dust." Came Rain-Lead's response as he watched the 70 tonne beast fall.

"Tiger-4, this is Tiger-1 I could really use a hand here Wolf...."

"No problem, I've got you covered." I replied as I fired another round off into the damaged Rifleman. The impact penetrated through a weakened portion of the rear torso armour and clipped the engine's reactor shielding, punching a hole straight through it. Smoke began to pour out of the enemy 'mech's waist, rising in thick billowing plumes into the sky.

Taking advantage of the critical hit the Thanatos unleashed all of its remaining weaponry, which only consisted of the LB-10X AC in the right arm and Light Gauss Rifle in the left, into the greivously wounded torso of the Rifleman The Gauss round found its mark punching through what little armour had remained in the center torso while the shotgun styled blast of the AC cluster round peppered the center and right torso with devasting force. Each pellet slamming home with reckless abandon as internal structure gave way and two critical hits were scored on the 'mech's gyro. With it's gyro virtually destroyed the Rifleman twisted violently to the side and seemed to jerk and twitch as the pilot fought valiantly to keep the machine upright. A final Gauss round from my Pheonix Hawk brought it to the ground though as the slug impacted the upper shoulder and twisted the machine beyond recovery. As the 'mech crashed into the ground Tiger-1 fired another Light Gauss round into the shattered carcass of the 'mech and struck gold with a direct hit to the damaged reactor shielding. Backpedalling away as quickly as he could the Thanatos was just barely able to escape the blast radius of the reactor going critical.

Well I kinda rushed it near the end, it was getting pretty long, lol, but hopefully you guys still like it. Let me know what you think.
